Many people do their first programming in "Scratch", MIT's drag-and-drop language, which makes code accessible by replacing typed commands with simple snap-together logic blocks. But most real world programming languages are not so simple. Software developers use typed languages such as Java to create their Apps and games.

Learn the basics of object-oriented programming while making your own side-scrolling arcade game. Use Processing and the Eli Whitney Museum's "Scratching" library for Java, which lets you use familiar "Scratch" commands as you write your first typed-code programs. Both are available for free online, so you can keep coding when you get home!

This workshop is designed for students with some programming experience. You can bring a USB drive to save your work, or take it home on a CD.
