To celebrate MLK day this year we will honor Dr. King’s passion for education and strengthening the community.

To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., this year on MLK day we will focus on building an accepting and welcoming community. The language and metaphor of kinetic connections by way of building Marble Trees will help us understand the power of a community working together to create tolerance and space for each other.

Campers will also help build a Community Tree that will be displayed at the museum. Each camper will decorate a leaf and inscribe the leaf with a message promoting inclusivity and peace. Campers will hang their leaves on the branches of our Community Tree. Along with our campers, we will paint and decorate the Community Tree’s trunk and branches. Future visitors to the museum will be able to keep adding leaves and inspiring messages. This will be symbolic of working together to cultivate acceptance, welcoming hearts, and embracing one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Six Principles of Nonviolence.
