The Museum’s backyard, East Rock park, was established 140 years ago. The Park, along with the Mill River, continue to preserve and share a vast array of birds, woodlands, and insects. When seasons shift, the park begins hinting at changes to come. In the spring we welcome countless species of birds. Some reside year round and others travel long distances, stopping over or to nest and stay here for the summer.
Along with the beautiful variety of birds, we see the first signs of spring foliage, flowers, greenery and growth. This is also the time of year when we begin to hear insects sing and see them buzz around, welcoming us into the forest.
Join us on April 10th to explore the first signs of Spring 2024. We have planned a day of investigating spring forest creatures and greenery with binoculars, listening to new sounds, and feeling the breeze that signals spring.
You will create a Fandex that commemorates the park, along with its birds, trees, and insects. You will learn to read the map of the Mill River and East Rock Park and you can mark where you find the creatures you discover.
Build our new Camera Obscura and use yours as a tool that master artists have used in the past to sketch and draw flowers and leaves by tracing the images you capture.
