Local toy maker A.C. Gilbert changed the way people thought of toys with his Erector steel girder construction sets. Inspired by the skyscrapers and bridges rising from the earth with their steel skeletons at the turn of the century, Erector engaged and inspired its audience to build and create as far as one could imagine. It is precisely this legacy that we feel most connected to at the museum. Start with a building or a sculpture. Discover the limitations of the pieces. Add a motor. Explore the challenges movement brings. Join us in creating and building using a variety of wooden gussets, our take on Gilbert’s Erector.
