Coloring Books? Yep. In 2016, Coloring Books sold brilliantly in a colorless year for booksellers. Why? Part fad. But much because of the deep satisfaction in the touch and sound and scent of applying color to paper as a counterpoint to the mechanical perfection of digital tools. But there is more to it. Coloring Books have a long and rich historyu. In this class, color and assemble the book on the Art and History of the Coloring Book. And learn some new techniques.

Start with pages from coloring books which were painted…before there were crayons. pick projects to work on. Pages created to educaate, to teach coordination, to help memory, to invite deep looking, to amuse, to argue, to puzzle, to sell stuff (Buster Brown Shoes), or to spark inventiveness (Susan Striker's Anti Coloring Books.)

Practice familiar and new techniques– blending, shading, rubbing, etching, melting, resting and tricks of your own invention. Make the Book. Make crayons. Make a caddy for your tools to keep them at hand.
