Overcoming obstacles, forging paths between unlikely plateaus, and bringing communities together — bridges have a history that is infused with science and culture. This week you will learn about the long history of these structures and how they have influenced cultures and development for centuries. With the first bridges during the Mesopotamian times, centuries of research and development began. Investigate bridges in Ancient Rome and how engineers used ground volcanic rock to make mortar, adding strength and stability to their bridges. Study and recreate the evolution of ancient and new technologies. Explore what has remained and what has changed in their manufacturing. Bridges are a metaphor that can translate to so many technological and community developments. Discover what bridges have brought to our world and how they continue to inspire.
